Not the easiest to spot what's going on here but this is a Gherkin party! Basically Mira's folks, our friend Hanne and her sister came by and spent the afternoon preparing the summer's cucumbers to be the year's gherkins. We then shared Thai pumpkin and coconut soup with pumpkin, chilli and cumin focaccia, followed by apple Chelsea buns. All thanks to the riches of Hanne's garden...Daddy pilfered the apples and a gigantic pumpkin when we picked 30 litres of blackcurrants to turn into juice. Also collected a few litres of wild mushrooms in the forest nearby along with a nasty little critter called a hirvi karpanen or moose tick in Kasper's hair.

Turku has been invaded for the weekend by a swarm of old school sailing ships for the Tall ships regatta. So there's all sorts of stuff happening along with tens of thousands of people milling around the end of our street.

This one of many of the miniature bronze sculptures hidden about Turku. It's a little girl holding a swan...maybe 10cm high. Cute.
